I am writing this just before the verdict is announced.
Whatever the verdict is? Accept it.
This is the justice we have all been asking for. This is how justice works. Two sets of evidence are presented and discussed, the merits are weighed by a jury of our peers, a verdict reached and a sentence applied. The defense may appeal this verdict if they so choose.
Justice isn’t just a remuneration of that which is owed but a restoration of harmony. We are a long ways from that harmony today.
But keep working for “a more Perfect Union” every day.
Above all else, do not encourage violence. Do not speak of it. Do not point to the instances of violence and use that as further reason to divide us.
That’s what the bad guys want.
Let the people of goodwill prevail today. Then let’s talk, because in an era of Twitter and Facebook and facemasks? We could use a lot more one-on-one real talk today between folks whose differences may seem sharp online, but dissolve over a beer (or coffee).
(Or whiskey.)
(And a cigar.)
